The way the pigeons are being slaughtered in the vicinity of the nesting place on Crooked Lake is immense. Professional pigeon catchers fill the woods netting them by the thousands while hundreds of persons with guns, some say between three and four hundred daily, are engaged in shooting them. The law prevents engaging in this pastime within five miles of the roost but we hear that the law is not very strictly lived up to. It is said the shipments average over 200 dozen per day. In fact this estimate may be considered a small one, as we are told that one netter captured 214 dozen in a day.
